FBT Exemption discounts for Electric Vehicles

The Australian Government has introduced draft legislation to exempt certain Fuel Efficient vehicles that cost less than the luxury car threshold of $84,916.00 from Fringe Benefits Tax.

If legislation is passed the following vehicles will be covered:

• Battery electric vehicles
• Hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles
• Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles – If the car has an internal combustion engine and can be recharged by an off-vehicle power source.

This exemption applies to any of the above vehicles first held and used by any person on 1 July or later.
